The Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus

Personally, I had never heard that this group even exists before reading this today.
CongressionalSportsmensCaucus Rep. Gregg Harper, a Mississippi Republican, had a jocular interview with Politico's Anne Schroeder Mullins and popped out this little knee-slapper:
Mullins: What in the world does the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus do?
Harper: We hunt liberal, tree-hugging Democrats, although it does seem like a waste of good ammunition.
Coming from a congressman from a state still renowned for its lynchings and murders not just of black people but white civil-rights workers -- in an era many of us can still remember clearly -- this kind of "humor" is anything but funny.
However, it is the kind of thing we've come to expect to today's Republicans, isn't it?
Not that makes any difference to Blue Dog Democrats like Ben Nelson. As Media Matters notes:
Ironically, Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE), a co-chair of the caucus, has praised the group for being bipartisan. "Unlike some of the other activities in Washington, Republicans and Democrats reach across the aisle and join hands to work together, not as Republican or Democrat, but as sportsmen and women," he wrote.
Someone should ask Ben Nelson if he enjoys hunting liberal Democrats too, since that's what his caucus is apparently viewed as a venue for... [emphasis original]

Earth to Nelson!  Hello?  Since when is hunting Democrats bipartisan?  I’m afraid I have to correct myself.  I have suggested that we need a new Senator from Nevada to replace Leg-Hound Harry.  I was wrong.  We need two new Senators from Nevada.

Off topic: I will be replacing our poll this afternoon or tomorrow.  If you have not voted, please do.

I can find plenty of game for them to hunt in Detroit if they have the stones to come and hunt here. Warn them though we shoot back and the police do not respond until all the killing is done.

I am getting sick of the supposed reaching across the aisle these assholes are fronting as cooperation. The president better show his hand soon, real soon and not with the gloves on. It is bare knuckle Chicago time baby.

They're getting more psychotic by the minute.

Ben 'Cornhole' Nelson is from Nebraska. However, Harry 'Stepnfetchit' Reid and John 'My parents got money' Ensign both need to be replaced.

I'm sure the family of Dr. George Tiller appreciates the humor.

Mark, I with you. If you remember, I said this would happen before Obama won the election.

That they are, Phil.

OOPS! Thanks Bro! I misread my letters. And I knew that! Duh!

Infidel, your point is well made.

Gaawd, what a clueless schmuck.

This shows how knuckle-dragging and base the Republican right has become. True, intelligent, dignified conservatives like Barry Goldwater and William F. Buckley are surely spinning in their graves. They would have never put up with uncivilized nonsense like this.

Brother Tim beat me to it. What's bizarre is that Crooks and Liars didn't realize Nelson was from Nebraska.

Secret Service strained as leaders face more threats

- The unprecedented number of death threats against President Obama, a rise in racist hate groups, and a new wave of antigovernment fervor threaten to overwhelm the US Secret Service, according to government officials and reports...The Secret Service is tracking a far broader range of possible threats to the nation’s leaders, the officials said, even as it also investigates financial crimes...

rjs-
The financial crimes alone, are overwhelming.

Every once in awhile in a moment of weakness my Inner Voice says...."we really should have just let them all leave the Union back in 1861. It would have saved a lot of lives on both sides then, and a lot of aggravation today".

Then I come back to reality...and realities that include guys like him really, really suck.

Well, the GOP is now a Southern based party....congratulations, you own guys like him. And please don't ever let this guy come north of Interstate 70.

Stimson, that he is. Nelson is a DINO.

Jack, you're right, but that Republican party is dead. If this one continues to melt down, we could see the Democratic Party move to the right to garner votes from conservatives and moderates, leaving the Republicans with only their rabid base. If that happened, there would be room for a new progressive party to the left of the Democrats, one with balls in addition to ideals.

Robert, that was mea culpa. I saw NE and thought Nevada, when it's really Nebraska. Nevada is NV.

RJ, you have that right. The secret service has never been so overworked. Just yesterday a private airport in NJ apparently voiced a death threat against Obama to a coworker, who called the cops. They searched the guys apartment and found 40 legal guns.

That they are, Tim.

Hugh, perhaps we need to build a wall. ;-)
