GOP Sweetheart – 11/12/2009 – Pete Hoekstra

Today’s GOP Sweetheart is the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee.  He loves to compromise our nation’s classified material for political gain.

GOPHypocrites Last night, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow accused Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI), the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee and current gubernatorial candidate, of leaking sensitive intelligence information to the press. Hoekstra told the Washington Post this week that Maj. Nidal M. Hasan had e-mail conversations with a radical Yemeni cleric, Anwar al-Aulaqi. Maddow excoriated Hoekstra for letting Aulaqi know that his e-mail is being monitored:

MADDOW: Why is it Pete Hoekstra who’s taking it upon himself to tell the press that this radical cleric is having his email read by U.S. intelligence agencies? The FBI had not said publicly that this cleric had been emailing Hasan. The CIA, the NSA, the White House — nobody else had reported this cleric was e-mailing Hasan. This is just Pete Hoekstra letting us know — and letting the radical cleric who is under surveillance know — that he’s under surveillance…

This is not a lone incident.  Hoekstra has a long history of compromising US intelligence for political advantage.  Here is Rachel’s coverage on this GOP pig.

Only a true GOP Sweetheart would commit treason and call it patriotism.

I'll up you one TC, this kind of New Republicanism is just as traitor as Hasan. Because of Hoekstra and Allan West (running for Repub seat down here) and a few other Republican publicity whores, too many folks are thinking that this sick man in TX is a militaristic implant by Al Qadea. There is no proof of that as yet. I really appreciate Maddow's due diligence on this!
Good post.

The dazed philosopher: So how come they let it happen?

Thanks, Gwen. The way I see it, Hasan turned radical in a dysfunctional response to the Bush/GOP regime treating the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq as a war on Islam. I have long said that GW ChickenHawk was the best recruiting poster child that Osama ever had. Hasan has no excuse, whatever his motivation.

Ivan, assuming that by 'it' you mean the massacre, you've asked the $64,000 question. I have not based an article on it, because I have nothing but speculation on which to base an answer. One thing is clear. The Homeland Security infrastructure developed bu the Bush/GOP regime is clearly in need of revision.

The security infrastructure isn't in need of revision, America simply needs more True Blue, I mean, Red, I mean, oops, Patriots like Rep. Hoekstra!

This has been another episode of Imagine If A Democrat Had Done This.

If a Democrat had done this, the GOP would be calling for a lynching.

This is where I've had problems with the Democrats a long time. The republicans would lose no sleep over attacking a Democrat for anything. Real or not. The republican party is benefitting from the tea party craze. I just want to see some real punishment aimed at the republicans. They don't deserve statesmanship.

Hoekstra's "revelation" reminds me of the scene in My Cousin Vinny when the judge calls out, "Let it be recorded that Mr. Gambini is holding up two fingers." What political advantage is it that Hoekstra's gained with his deliberate leak?

Pretty normal for the people who outed a CIA covert operator in order to settle a political score.

Truth, in the former incarnation of this blog, before Obama was elected, when Obama promised to take a bipartisan approach, I said he was wrong. Bipartisanship cannot be had with a group that refuses honest negotiation. At this point, the Dems should be using every parliamentary mechanism at their disposal to push their programs forward, Republicans be damned.

Pauline, Hoekstra is trying to define Hasan's attack as a terrorist plot so the Republicans can claim that a terrorist attack occurred on Obama's watch and claim that the Dems are, therefore weak on national security.

JR, that's what's so revolting. This is normal GOP tactics.

Jack, he should get lessons in how to take a leak from Larry Craig.

Libhom, how is it that they always find excuses for the gay Republicans that become outed?

Vig, you have that one right!

So Hoekstra has a secret contact:

I'll bet its Erik Prince (Blackwater or H2O or whatever its called
now) His family are from Holland MI...Hoekstra's hometown. Erik, his
mom Elsa, dad Edgar, sister Betsy DeVos - they have all given Hoekstra
thousands of dollars over the years. Is it far-fetched to think his
contact is a Blackwater person?
