Michelle Bachmann and Glen Beck: Are You Proud?

Ever since my return I have expressed concern that the hateful speech coming from the GOP to stoke fear in the American people would result in violence.  Some of you have been warning against this outcome longer than I.  Sadly, our concerns have been realized.

And this is the fruit of their efforts.

Bill-Sparkman BIG CREEK, Ky. — One of the witnesses who found a part-time census worker's body hanging in a Kentucky cemetery says the man was naked and his hands and feet were bound with duct tape.

Jerry Weaver of Fairfield, Ohio, told The Associated Press on Friday that he was among a group of relatives who discovered the body of Bill Sparkman on Sept. 12.

Sparkman was a substitute teacher who worked part-time for the census. Law enforcement officials have released very few details on his death, only saying he died from asphyxiation.

Weaver says the man also was gagged and had duct tape over his eyes and neck. He says something that looked like an identification tag was taped to the side of his neck.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

BIG CREEK, Ky. (AP) — Authorities said a U.S. Census worker died by asphyxiation but were releasing few other details about the mysterious case nearly two weeks after Bill Sparkman's body — with the word "fed" scrawled on the chest — was found hanging from a tree near a family cemetery secluded by Appalachian forest.

The word appeared to have been written with a felt-tip pen, Clay County Coroner Jim Trosper said Friday. He did not elaborate… [emphasis added]

Inserted from <AP/Google>

Michelle Bachmann and Glen Beck, you have done it.  You have stirred peoples fears until some poor ignorant fool acted on your foul lies and deranged Census Bureau conspiracy theories, and now a man is dead for nothing more than doing his job.  The two of you helped kill him.  Is this what you wanted?  Are you proud?

I offer my deepest condolences to the Sparkman family. I ask Republicans everywhere and Democrats with a  Republican Representative or Senator to contact these elected officials and ask, no beg them to stop this madness and stop looking the other way, or in come cases, fuelling the fire.

This is only the beginning. *sigh*

Certainly is only the beginning, for there are billions of communist agents running amok throughout Real America®! Save us, Madcap Michelle, Boisterous Beck, from the threat of *gasp* CENSUS agents!

'tis a funny thing, creating your own reality.

Brother Tim,
You are so correct. The sad thing is that given our country's pride in freedom of speech there is no way we can silence the lies and hatred coming from these people. We will have more violence and Beck, Bachmann, et al will never, never admit that they stoked the fires of hatred and violence.

Brother, I only wish I didn't agree.

Randal, Faux Noise creates it for them.

Welcome Charles. Surely they will feign innocence and laugh into their sleeves.

One can only hope that NO ONE in Michelle Bachmanns district, fills out their census. then she will be out of a job - YAY!! The woman is totally a whack-job.

Such a horrible death for someone only trying to get by and live an honest and decent life.

Welcome, Mom. What a wonderful idea!

Welcome, Oso. I hear you. It's obscene. Do you have a blog? I saw none in your profile.

To be fair, from what I heard on the news (I think it was CNN) said that they think the man might have stumbled upon a Meth Lab as he was taking his census. It could very well be that the animals that killed him were more concerned that the guy was a "Fed" agent trying to bust them or spy on them.

If it were guys making meth...I doubt very much if they sat around watching Fox news or discussed political views amongst themselves. Chances are, they were just protecting their illegal business. Drug dealers aren't guys you want to mess with and this poor guy might have just ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'm not a fan of Glen Beck or many on Fox News...but, IMO, it's a bit of a stretch to say that it was all his fault because of what was said on that particular interview.

There's a lot of hatred being stoked by the media...on BOTH sides of the political issues. This act of violence was just a sad commentary on the state of humanity, IMO.

My prayers go out to his family.

Nunly, I searched for hours for an alternate explanation to mine and found none. Is there any evidence that was what happened? It this turns out to be correct, I will immediately post an apology. If I am correct, the fault rests more with Bachmann, a member of Congress.

TomCat- If I recall I heard it on Wolf Blitzer's show, maybe there is something in the transcripts? I wish I could remember.

Anyway...even that was just a "theory" and I don't think anyone knows what happened and who did it.

Regardless, it's such a shame because the census is so important and it's usually people who are really hurting for money who take on that job. Here, this poor guy was doing something he thought was doing his civic duty and he ends up murdered. Just shameful and so sad.

No need for an apology...I was just pointing out what I had heard.

Both Michele Bachmann and Glenn Beck are paranoid whack-jobs who are totally clueless. First Queen Flake talks about how the census could be (bheneficially) finding out how many illegal immigrants there are in the country, then she contradicts herself by saying it was bad for the census to round up Japanese during WWII. Well, you can't have it both ways, Bachmann. I agree that putting those of Japanese ancestry in camps was over the top, but there is certainly no sinister plot to use the census to similarly round up unsuspecting citizens for reasons unknown (or made up) today. What a pair of idiots.

The government uses census data to make certain each Congressperson has an appropriate number of constituents and to determine where and how best to apportion needed government aid and resources. All this right wing paranoia is baseless. I hope both Beck and Bachmann get the maximum fine and even jail time for noncompliance.

Thanks, Nunly. I'll still keep an eye open. When I'm wrong, I say so.

Thanks Jack. That's why the Repuglicans hate ACORN so much. They go count people in doorways and under bridges. Such poor areas vote Democratic, so the GOP does not want them counted.

Doesn't look like that's going to happen.

A good attorney could make a case for their rantings as hate speech.

Amen, Hill. As long as Rupert Murdoch has money to spend on propaganda, we're stuck with it.

Ivan, it does indeed.

Mark, even a bad attorney could.
